AI – What is it all about?

October 25 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Free

It seems like we cannot turn around without hearing about AI lately.  People and industries are currently tackling how to use it…or not. It is shaping geopolitical relations and impacting consumer prices. But what is AI? This session will dive into the definition of AI (and how its widely misunderstood), provide a non-technical background about how it works, and look at some specific applications in healthcare. You might have seen your doctor use an “AI scribe” to summarize your last visit, your doctor might be consulting OpenEvidence to make a plan for you or a loved one, or you might be chatting with Google Gemini about a health concern. How should you think about AI? And how should you decide when to trust it (or not)?

The Presenter: Jeff Clement, Ph.D.

Jeff Clement, Ph.D. is a Senior Data Scientist at Ovative Group, where he builds AI models and analyses for clients across retail, technology, healthcare, and fintech. Internally, he builds AI tools to help teams turn complex data into decisions they can act on, and just as often, insist on putting a “human in the loop.”

Jeff earned his Ph.D. and joined Augsburg University as an Assistant Professor of Information Systems.

Since returning to industry, he has remained focused on the same core question that shaped his academic work: how people actually use data and AI to make decisions—and how to ensure they can trust the information in front of them.

A light lunch will be provided.
